Unity 6 C# Group Project Game Design Local Co-Op Design & Technical Docs Project Management Production Planning Task Management

About

The game was developed by a group of 6 students over the course of one semester. Each of us spent 4h at school working the game design together, and 10h at home working individually.

The project features one simple main mechanic: reeling. You are a penguin fighting over who gets the crown! One penguin, however, handles something far more aggressive than a fishing rod: the cannon. Once the canoneer penguin hits someone, they swap places. If the crowned penguin is shot, he drops the crown for another one to reel.

Reel each other in the radius of the cannon, sabotage everyone, fuck your friends over, and most importantly, take the crown for yourself! Have fun playing this game in multiple rounds and keep score of who's winning the most so you can know who to target next!

We participated in The Rookies contest with our game.

What I did

Project management

A big part of this project was project management, which I was mainly in charge of. We had to dip our toes in the real world of game production, having to handle the game documentation by ourselves. On top of the documentation, we had to advertise our game on Itch, writing weekly devlogs. Task and group management were, of course, a key element in making sure everything goes as planned and nothing is on fire.

Reeling Mechanic

I was in charge of implementing the main mechanic of the game, namely reeling. This mechanic developed over many iterations until it reached the final result. It took a lot of trial and error to get it just right. The development process of the mechanic over time can be seen on the devlog.

Other mentions

Besides the above-mentioned, I also helped with the round system in the game, implemented the animations, helped with the implementation of the UI, and played a big role in bug fixing. I was always available to answer questions and help my teammates.
